Georgian Technical University

Georgian Technical University was founded in 1922 as a polytechnic faculty of the Tbilisi State University. The first lecture was read by the world-famous Georgian mathematician Professor Andrea Razmadze. Transformed in 1928 into an independent “Georgian Politechnical Institute” it achieved University status by 1990.

Batumi Art University

The history of the higher art educational institution in Batumi has its origins from 1990s. On 29 September, 1995 the State Institute of Art was established in Batumi by the Decision of the Georgian Government. After several years the Institute of Art became the leading educational center in artistic sphere. There were 3 Faculties and 9 Chairs at the Institute of Art.

Shota Rustaveli State University

Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University is an important educational, scientific and cultural center of our country. It has a 80-year-long history.  The establishment and development of the educational system in Adjara was a long-time endeavor of the Georgian community. In 1893 the issue was raised to open a Boys’ Gymnasium in Batumi. On 26–27 June 1893 the Municipality of the city granted 2 623, 95 sq/m area of land for the Boys’ Gymnasium at the seaside. The project was designed by a military engineer Sedelnikov. The first floor of the building allocated a gym while the second floor contained the church, assembly hall, eight classrooms, art classroom, physics study-room, laboratory and a library.

Tbilisi State University

The first national university in the Caucasus was opened in 1918, which laid the foundation for the European type of high school in Georgia.

Shota Meskhia Zugdidi State University

Under the Decree №145 of the Government of Georgia of July 13, 2007, LEPL High Educational Institution was established in Zugdidi Branch of Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University, Zugdidi Professional Lyceum and LEPL Senaki Agrarian-Economic College, based on three totally different missions in Samegrelo region.

Under the Decree №122 of the Government of Georgia of May 15, 2008, the higher education institution was named after the famous Georgian historian and public figure Shota Meskhia and was founded by Shota Meskhia Zugdidi State Institute.

Tbilisi State Academy of Arts

The foundation of the Academy was preceded by intensive activities in the field of arts. In 1874, the Artists’ Society founded the first elementary school of arts. Later, in 1901, a secondary school of painting and sculpture was opened, which functioned under the patronage of the Saint Petersburg Imperial Academy of Arts. Before 1921 private arts schools functioned in Tbilisi and other towns of Georgia. In late 1921 the so-called ‘high arts workshops’ were established, and in the beginning of 1922, the People’s Studio was founded by the renowned Georgian artist Mose Toidze.

Tbilisi State Conservatoire

Tbilisi Vano Sarajishvili State Conservatoire is the first Georgian higher education institution. His birth date is May 1, 1917. Over the years, Conservatoire was the only music school in the European center of the Caucasus. In 1924, the status of the State Conservatoire was awarded, and since 1947 the famous Georgian singer Vano Sarajishvili is named. As an architectural monument, the conservatory building is included in the list of cultural heritage monuments.
